RAVA

Rochester AudioVisual AssocationThe Rochester AudioVisual Association is the oldest AV association in the United States, started in 1956. They badly needed an update of both their branding and their web presence, and that is exactly what they received.

As you can see, the brand is simple yet easy to recognize, and it combines the ideas of visual and audio through film with audio EQ bars inside. Film was very important to make a part of the brand since one of Rochester’s main contributions to the history of communication was the invention of the roll of film by George Eastman. A sense of history was important to capture. To me, the EQ bars bring a sense of the digital age into the brand. Helvetica seemed to fit best with this brand idea.

After many discussions about how RAVA should be using the web to market itself and communicate with its members, we decided to focus the website on articles written by members of the association, making this a small online publication. This allows the members of RAVA to feature their expertise as well as reveal to visitors the quality of the association. Of course, the content is focused on the local Rochester perspective. The result: a fun, interactive website with account registration for members, and a system to add user-generated content. The website also features an online Registration form to become a member.

I also wrote several articles on blogging and graphic design, which are published on the website.
